The BSA and the Sociology Editorial Board are very pleased to welcome them to the journal.
The Surrey Editorial Team is looking forward to picking up the baton from the outgoing Manchester editorial team:
“We are thrilled and honoured to take on editorship of Sociology, a truly leading journal that we all hold in the highest esteem. Editing such an important and prestigious a journal is an awesome responsibility and one we take-on with the utmost commitment. We are lucky to inherit Sociology in a very strong position as a result of the brilliant work of the outgoing editorial team from the University of Manchester – a truly difficult act to follow.
Our team, all based in the Department of Sociology at the University of Surrey, will be led by Professors Rachel Brooks and Robert Meadows as editors in chief. The editorial work will be shared between eight of us in all, encompassing a wide variety of experience, specialisms and career stages. The full team comprises Brooks and Meadows, alongside Ian Brunton-Smith, Ranjana Das, Vicki Harman, Paul Hodkinson, Andrew King and Emily Setty.
As editors, we hope we will be able to build on the admirable work of the outgoing team, sustaining the quality of the journal and ensuring it retains its place as one of the leading sociology journals in the world, rigorously engaging with key sociological debates at a time when their importance is difficult to over-estimate. We are also developing plans to broaden the audience of the journal, to further internationalise its contributors, readership and profile and to help foreground issues related to equity, diversity and inclusion.
We hope we’ll be able to put some of these ideas into practice in the coming months and beyond. In the meantime, we very much look forward to working with our excellent editorial board and associate board and with all those who contribute to or engage with the journal.”
Sociology is a journal of the British Sociological Association and its successes are due in large part to the efforts of our members who act as Editors, authors and peer reviewers. Sociology is the BSA’s flagship journal, with an impact factor of 4.816. It publishes peer-reviewed articles advancing theoretical understanding and reporting empirical research about the widest range of sociological topics. The journal encourages submissions using quantitative and qualitative research methods.
